This is the last day of Staycation. I don't want to go back to work tommorrow. I am going to focus on today! Last week I posted my goals for the week. Seeing that we did whatever caught our fancy, I did not complete everything on my list, but I made a good dent and I am pleased with it. Here is what is on the wall today:
That is Star Flowers by Kim Schaefer in her book Flowering Quilts. When I put it on my list for this week, I forgot it had stars on top of the circles. I had the stems stitched down, had to make four more blocks (because I made a table runner for my sister-in-law for her birthday) and thought all I had left to do was place and stitch the circles. After I got everything back out, I realized that I had to do the stars (or why would it be called Star Flowers??). That is today's project. I think I can get it done.
Here are the finishes for Staycation:
Binding is all finished on the quilt. This is the Double Delight mystery quilt that Bonnie Hunter did a couple of years ago. I love how it turned out.
I finished the placemats:
I quilted and bound the dresdan plate flowers:
It is ready so that I can enter it in the county fair this week. When I get it back, I will add beads to it. I want beads in the flower centers and in the border. This is heavily quilted. It does not show up in the photo. When I add the beads, I will get close up pics. Off to sew. Later today, we are smoking beer can chicken. YUM! I hope that there will be left overs. It makes the best chicken salad. Have a Happy Labor Day and don't labor too hard...have FUN!

Thursday (aka Staycation Day 6)
Let's see what gets done today. Jim has college tonight, and dove season starts today. I want to get some quilting done, at sewing machine as well as longarm. I haven't decided how I am going to quilt the last two flimsies. The smaller one will be done at the sewing machine. I got a new quilting foot for Christmas and haven't tried it out yet. Now is the time. The Magic Star Flowers I will do at the longarm. I want to do extra special something or other. I am leaning to trapunto and some small, dense quilting...like what Char Anderson has in her book One Line at a Time . But the one thing I wanted to do was to go to Dallas area and go to a gourmet food market and check out the cheeses and meats and spices and anything else they have. Maybe tommorrow. I'll report back later today to let you know how it's going.

Wonderful Wednesday (aka Staycation Day 5)
Yesterday I finished quilting my mystery quilt. The binding has been stitched on three sides so far. I may finish it tonight. I haven't come out to my room today. I watched TV and swam a bit. I did my hand stitching while watching TV. I have the fall placements finished and on the table. I made some more Hello Dollies and am doing my best not to grab one everytime I walk past them. Grabbed a cup of coffee and now will do some machine stitching. I am ready for some time at the machine. I also have to piece the backing for the Magic Star Flower wallhanging.
Jim got the faucet replaced and while we were in the pool, he jumps out saying "We have a water leak!" I look over and see water shooting in the air. It blew the faucet head completely off. Luckily, we were outside and saw it when it happenend. It has been fixed and the other one checked to make sure that it is okay. Now for some sewing.

Design Floor (aka Staycation Day3)
I have a lot planned to do this week. Here is what I plan on working on:
There are 3 flimsies: Upper right is a mystery quilt that Bonnie Hunter had a couple of years ago. I am just now getting to quilting it. Bottom Center is a dresdan plate wall hanging and upper left is also a wall hanging, I call it Magic Star Flowers. Then there are three more projects, stitch down the binding on some fall placemats, add an appliqued border to the churn dash on top and finish the blocks for the button flowers. I have many more, but these are the ones I thought I would concentrate on this week.
We at breakfast at the local dinner and now Superman is working on replacing the faucets outside. It is cloudy and drizzing today. It is still expected to get over 100, but right now it is quite nice outside.
Saturday, college boy and his girlfriend came over (to do laundry) and swam. We cooked steaks and veggies on the grill.
I know that is not the best photo, but it is all I have.
Yesterday I finished a baby quilt for the music minister and his wife. This is their 4th child and is to be a boy. They will have two boys and two girls. A very nice young family.
Now to get back to work and get that quilt loaded and quilted. Have a great sew day!

STAYCATION!!!
Superman and I are on a staycation this week. Yahooo! The pool is in (pics to come) and I am planning on working on MY QUILTS! The county fair is coming up and I want/need to put some items in the fair. I am not going to work on customer quilts this week. I plan to get several blocks done on the Civil War quilt. I have I think 3 quilts to be quilted. Need to quilt a baby quilt tommorrow. Sew much stuff to do. I have looked forward so much to this week. Pics should be plenty.
Went to church tonight to get the Christmas musical we will be doing. I had signed up to take a dessert, so I made Hello Dollies. I haven't had one in years. Luckily, there was some to bring back home. YUM!
I am going to the Civil War blog to write down blocks and cutting/sewing directions so I can put my nose to the grindstone. More to come.
